Dylan
Hartley reveals he’s “not blessed with facial hair” but he’s
growing the straight up slug for this years’ Movember.
He
was the man who captained his side when they raised a phenomenal
amount of money in 2013, following what he described as an
“unbelievable”
reaction
“that was solely down to everyone at the Saints doing it.”
Whether
you were a player or a staff member, everyone got on board.
“I
think that awareness and the platform at Franklin's Gardens that
spread to the fans and the wider rugby public was brilliant … it
was humbling actually to see how much money we raised and how many
people locally contributed to that.”
So
can Dylan and the Front Mo Union beat last year’s record? Well,
it’s not all about growing a mo! Reflecting on last year’s
challenge of the time, effort and energy invested in such a
full-blown fundraising event, it was an eye opening experience for
the Saints Skipper and his merry men;
“What
I did find is that it’s very tiring, and if you are trying to raise
the bar in terms of funds, I’m just going to let it happen
organically, naturally and just see how we go.”
“If you’re talking about
raising more money, we can’t get greedy and ask people for more
money. I think the main reason we set up to do it was for ‘team
unity’, for a great cause and for a bit of fun and that’s exactly
why we’re going to do it again this year. And if we can raise some
funds along the way, that’d be brilliant.”
On
a serious note, Movember
is the leading global
organisation committed to changing the face of men’s health. It’s
committed to raising awareness and the understanding of the health
issues men face, with a specific focus on prostate cancer, testicular
cancer and mental health.
As
Dylan quite rightly states;
“It’s
for a great cause and it's fun … it does get competitive … I’m
looking forward to growing again and growing a thicker moustache …”
Dylan
recommends you join the Front Mo Union – the more members, the more
money raised together!
