“I'm confident in the squad, I'm confident in all the girls
around me that we can go out there and do the job” Ceri Large.
It's the end of the working week and that common phrase springs to
mind; “Thank goodness it's Friday!” I don't know about you but I begin to wind
down and relax on a Friday evening, but come midday today, there will be twelve
teams across the pond at France 's
national rugby centre Marcoussis, telling you the complete opposite.
It's time to wind up! Focus! It's game day and all eyes are set on Paris , ahead of the
seventh Women's Rugby World Cup that begins this afternoon, Friday 1st
August 2014.
Defending champions New Zealand
can expect stiff competition from the likes of France ,
Canada and the United States and let's not forget England ! It
promises to be a show-stopping spectacle and no doubt the emotions are running
high.
Ahead of their first match this evening against Samoa, England's
very own Ceri Large, 23, Community Coach for the RFU and Fly-half, spoke of the
positivity in camp leading up to this World Cup;
“We're feeling really confident, preparations have been
going really well”
But it hasn't all been plain sailing.
“Tuesday's have been the toughest”
In order for England
to have regained momentum after their defeat to France in the Six Nations earlier
this year, 'Toughen up Tuesday' was born.
These gruelling training sessions have involved fitness,
lifting and live contact in order to prepare Ceri and her team mates for what
lies ahead, especially as developing teams are striving to improve their
standard of performance on the back of enhanced funding programmes;
“We see losing to France as a benefit now. We've
learnt from that, moved on and hopefully we can put it right in this World Cup”
You'll be pleased to know 'Toughen up Tuesday' has been
abandoned for next week.
Good luck England !
